Meal Planning

Every 4-6 months, I work on what I call a “mass meal prep”, which usually includes a few hours of finding recipes, another hour of making a grocery list, a few hours of grocery shopping, and then an entire day of cooking! This is the third “mass meal prep”  I’ve done, and each time it saves us so much money and time. Not to mention all of the leftovers! My deep freeze is full, and now I feel ready to start my very full semester at school!

Here is what I made:

  • 8 stuffed peppers
  • 3 spaghetti sauces
  • a dozen muffins
  • 11 jar meals
  • 24 slow cooker meals

After I posted this image on my Instagram and Facebook accounts, I was flattered and humbled at how many people asked for the recipes and how I did it.

After finding and choosing the recipes that I want to use, I make a comprehensive grocery list using the following categories:

  • Meat
  • Produce
  • Dairy
  • Frozen section
  • Sauces/condiments
  • Baking section
  • Herbs/spices

I choose to type out my grocery list…and for this prep it ended up being over 2 pages for all of the ingredients! It also makes it easier to grocery shop when everything is organized by category….if you haven’t already noticed, I love organization and efficiency:)

After grocery shopping, I print off all of the recipes and put them in a duo-tang. Then, after trying the recipes, because many of them are new to us, we “rate” them, and I write down the things I would change or do again. I write it all down because otherwise, by the next time that I do another mass meal prep, I forget which recipes we liked or disliked.

Here are the recipes that I used (unrated at this time):
